About us
Architetti Senza Frontiere Italia (ASF Italia) is a not for profit organisation. Since 1998 we aim to facilitate processes of equitable and sustainable development through actions in the field of socially responsive design.
By engaging in the production of the built environment, we strive to support and benefit the most underprivileged sectors of the world’s population –individuals and groups who are marginalised or living in poverty–.
We believe that the built environment is a fundamental ground where processes of inclusion and participation can be positively negotiated, and that the practice of architecture can be a powerful medium to work out global issues of social, economic, and environmental sustainability according to the needs and aspirations of local communities.
We pay special attention to the investigation and spreading of appropriate and appropriable building technologies, as tools that can enable community participation and contribute to the emancipation of people in the production of their own habitat.
Our work
Architecture for Development
Architectural and urban scale projects that trigger and improve sustainable development for underprivileged communities and territories. We work to strengthen local communities by making them the main player in the transformation of their habitat.
Architecture for Training
Training sessions for local communities to empower their sustainable building capabilities, as well as workshops for designers and students who are interested in our work.
Architecture for Debate
Actions to raise awareness on ethical responsibility, namely regarding the relationship between the disciplines of space design and social shaping of habitat.
Our network
We are the Italian chapter of Architecture Sans Frontières International, an independent network gathering 33 not for profit design organisations spread all over the world. We are also part of ASF rete Italia together with Architettura Senza Frontiere Piemonte, Architetti Senza Frontiere Toscana, Architetti Senza Frontiere Veneto, Architettura Senza Frontiere Lazio, and Architetti Senza Frontiere Sicilia Calabria.
