FuoriCastello is a project by La Grande Fabbrica delle Parole and Architetti Senza Frontiere Italia Onlus, financed by Fondazione Cariplo within LaCittàIntorno programme.
The project seeks to bring the central museum of Castello Sforzesco closer to the city outskirts. The aim is, on the one hand, to make children from Adriano and Padova neighbourhoods feel at home when visiting the museum, and, on the other hand, to get the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods closer to the museum experience through the eyes of the children.
La Grande Fabbrica delle Parole worked directly with the children of the two neighbourhoods –which attend the “San Mamete” public primary school. The work developed through a series of workshops. Indeed, children have first experienced and re-invented “what a museum is” and “what a collection of remains is”. Then some original museum remains have been brought to children at school. After that, children have organised their own “collection of remains”, made of their most significant everyday objects –called everyday remains.
At the same time, as Architetti Senza Frontiere Italia we worked on the museum to host children’s “everyday remains”. To do so, during the event “Adriano Community Days” we enthusiastically co-designed and co-built a tiny mobile museum together with numerous high school students – from “Caravaggio” and “Parini” High Schools, in Milan– and some inhabitants of Adriano and Padova neighbourhoods. The tiny mobile museum is composed of a hallway covered with children’s words which leads to a translucent box filled with the pictures of the everyday remains.
